   Can I conduct my credit union business?

Yes. You can still conduct all of your ALEC transactions from the comfort of your home, car, over the phone or in-person. ALEC will continue to maintain operations with all service capabilities, including the ability to deposit funds, withdraw cash, apply for a loan or credit card, open a new account and more.

   Can I use the Service Centers?

Yes. All ALEC Service Centers are now open for member use. Welcome back! We look forward to serving you in-person soon. 
For your convenience, please see below for the Service Center hours of operation that are now in effect. Please note we have allotted Wednesday mornings at our Gurnee location for our most vulnerable members. We will continue to monitor the situation and will communicate with you regarding any further changes.

When visiting an ALEC Service Center, we kindly ask you to adhere to the following items:
  • Please wear a face covering. When in an ALEC Service Center, please wear your face covering when conducting your transactions with an ALEC employees in an office or conference room.
  • Please respect the 6-foot rule when social distancing. Social distancing markers are on the floor for your use.
  • Please avoid large groups when in the Service Center. If you notice members occupying all floor markers, you may need to wait outside to maintain a safe distance. 
  • Use of hand sanitizer. We have hand sanitizer available for your use when entering the Service Center.
  • Completion of transaction slips. Transaction slips will be made available to facilitate quicker processing of your transactions.

If your ALEC Visa Credit card is lost or stolen, call 800.449.7728 to report it immediately. Your card will then be blocked from any future fraudulent transactions.

   What is ALEC doing to protect members and employees?

 ALEC continues to take proactive steps to protect the health and safety of our members and employees. 
  • ALEC is following the Restore Illinois health and safety guidelines.
  • ALEC has a majority of employees working remotely. We plan to bring employees back to the office in a phased approach.
  • Employees that are working in ALEC offices are complying with social distancing guidelines as defined by the Centers for Disease Control.
  • Employees will wear face coverings for the health and safety of our members.
  • We have increased our supplies of hand sanitizer. When visiting the Service Centers, we have hand sanitizer available for your use.
  • We are continuing to wipe down all ATMs, drive-thru machines (ITMs) and high-touch areas on a regular basis.
  • We are adding social distancing floor markers at all Service Centers and in our Gurnee headquarters.
  • We are installing plexiglass guards in front of all teller windows at the Service Centers and in all offices.
  • We suggest wearing gloves or using hand sanitizer every time you use an ALEC ATM or ITM. For more information, please visit the Centers for Disease Control website.
  •  We have either rescheduled all in-person ALEC educational events as webinars until at least September 8th. Please see the ALEC Educational Events page here for the most updated schedule.
  • We have suspended all business travel for our employees until at least August 10th. This suspension is to protect the safety of not only our employees, but our members.
  • We are diligently monitoring the health of our employees and will send employees home who are feeling ill.

Please be aware of fraudulent Coronavirus scams that wish to steal your sensitive and personal account information.    How will ALEC support me if I need financial assistance?

ALEC is taking proactive steps to assist members facing a financial hardship as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
  • ALEC will work with members seeking potential relief on loans. If you have any questions regarding loan payment deferrals, please contact us 24/7 at 800.762.9988.

ALEC is also offering a Hardship Relief Loan for members who have been impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The Hardship Relief Loan features:

  • Fixed rate of 3.99% APR*
  • Terms from 12 to 36 months
  • Maximum loan amount of $5,000
  • 90-day first payment deferral

   Are my ALEC accounts insured?

Rest assured, ALEC has been and continues to be a strong financial institution and your funds are secure. All ALEC accounts are insured up to $250,000 each by American Share Insurance (ASI). This means that American Share insures each and every account of an individual member up to $250,000 no matter how many accounts you hold.  In addition, as a result of the passage of the CARES Act, all non-interest bearing transaction accounts are fully insured without limits through at least December 31, 2020. For more information about American Share Insurance (ASI), please click here.
